This relaxed coastal town is known for its long sandy beaches, colourful fishing boats and tropical lagoon. After check-in, enjoy a refreshing welcome drink and take time to unwind from your flight, meet your Tour Manager and fellow tourists, and receive a gentle introduction to the journey ahead. You may wish to enjoy a leisurely walk along the beach, take a dip in the pool, or relax and adjust to the warm Indian Ocean climate before the adventure truly begins.

Overnight in Negombo.

DAY 02 – DAMBULLA CAVE TEMPLES AND TRAVEL TO SIGIRIYA

After breakfast, your journey heads inland into the Cultural Triangle, the historic heartland of Sri Lanka. Your first major visit is to the famous Dambulla Cave Temple complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most impressive cave temple networks in Asia. Here, richly painted ceilings and walls depict Buddhist stories and teachings. At the same time, more than a hundred Buddha statues dating back over two thousand years fill the extraordinary, dimly lit chambers carved directly into the rock face.

On the way to Sigiriya, you will stop at a local rural school when possible, offering a genuine opportunity to interact with children and teachers. This is not a staged experience but a warm human connection, and modest voluntary contributions of supplies are always appreciated but never required. In the late afternoon, you arrive at your refined hotel near the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, where you will stay for two nights, surrounded by lush jungle and tranquil scenery.

Overnight in Sigiriya.

DAY 03 – SIGIRIYA ROCK FORTRESS AND MINNERIYA SAFARI

Rise early today to explore one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic landmarks, the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. This dramatic rock citadel rises steeply from the plains and is surrounded by landscaped water gardens and moats designed over 1,500 years ago. As you explore, you will see ancient frescoes of the Sigiriya maidens and the famous mirror wall. Those who wish may climb to the summit, where the ruins of King Kassapa’s palace rest on the flat rock top and breathtaking panoramic views stretch far across the countryside. Those who prefer not to climb can still enjoy the site from the lower terraces and gardens.

In the afternoon, the journey turns to wildlife as you set off by private jeep into Minneriya National Park. This beautiful reserve is one of the best places in Asia to observe wild elephants in their natural habitat, especially during the dry season when large herds gather around the central tank. As you travel through open grasslands, forest and wetlands, keep watch also for sambar deer, monkeys and a wide variety of birdlife. Return to your hotel in Sigiriya for a restful evening.

Overnight in Sigiriya.

DAY 04 – ANCIENT CITY OF POLONNARUWA AND TRAVEL TO PASIKUDA

This morning, you travel to Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka’s medieval capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, carefully preserved ruins tell the story of a once-magnificent royal city with palaces, monasteries, audience halls, and giant reservoirs that ingeniously supplied water to the region. One of the absolute highlights is the Gal Vihara complex, where four monumental Buddha statues have been carved from a single slab of granite, considered masterpieces of Sinhalese sculpture.

Following your cultural explorations, your journey continues east toward the serene, sunlit shores of Pasikuda. This part of Sri Lanka is known for its calm, shallow waters and pristine white-sand beaches, making it perfect for swimming and relaxation. After arriving at your luxury beach resort, the rest of the day is yours to relax as you wish.

Overnight in Pasikuda.

DAY 05 – PASIKUDA LEISURE DAY

Today is entirely dedicated to relaxation on the beautiful Pasikuda coastline. You may spend the day lazing beneath swaying palms, swimming in crystal-clear waters, or enjoying the resort’s excellent facilities. The bay is naturally protected, offering some of the safest swimming conditions in Sri Lanka, and the warm Indian Ocean invites long, leisurely dips. Those who like to stay active can enjoy optional water sports, snorkelling or boat trips, while others may prefer a spa treatment or simply the pleasure of doing nothing at all.

Overnight in Pasikuda.

DAY 06 – JOURNEY TO KANDY VIA DAMBANA INDIGENOUS VILLAGE

Leaving the coast behind, today you travel into the green hills of Sri Lanka, passing rural villages and forest landscapes on your way to the cultural capital of Kandy. Along the route, you stop in the remote village of Dambana, home to the Veddha people, recognised as the island’s indigenous community. Here, you gain a rare insight into ancient ways of life, traditional hunting and gathering practices, and deep connections with the forest environment that have been preserved for generations. It is a respectful and authentic cultural experience, handled sensitively to ensure the community’s dignity.

On arrival in Kandy, you will check into your hotel before heading in the evening to one of the most sacred Buddhist sites in the world, the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. During the evening ceremony, incense, drumming and chanting create a powerful spiritual atmosphere as pilgrims come to offer flowers and prayers. Afterwards, you will enjoy a vibrant cultural dance performance showcasing Kandyan music, masked dancers and acrobatics.

Today your journey climbs into Sri Lanka’s famous Tea Country, a region of dramatic mountain scenery, cool air and endless carpets of emerald-green tea plantations. The road winds past waterfalls, mist-covered valleys and tea pickers working on steep slopes. You will visit a traditional tea estate and factory where you can see the whole journey from freshly picked leaves to the final aromatic product. Learn about Sri Lanka’s role as one of the world’s leading tea producers and enjoy a tasting of pure Ceylon tea at its source.

Arrive in Nuwara Eliya, affectionately known as “Little England” for its colonial architecture, racecourse, manicured gardens, and Tudor-style buildings. A brief tour introduces you to the town before you check in to your hotel, often featuring log fires, rose gardens and sweeping mountain views.

DAY 09 – SCENIC TRAIN JOURNEY TO ELLA

Considered one of the world’s most beautiful rail routes, it passes through a landscape of tea fields, forests, mountain tunnels and spectacular viaducts. The leisurely pace allows you to fully appreciate the views as mist rolls across the hillsides and small villages appear below.

On arrival in the charming hill town of Ella, you will have time to relax and explore. Those who wish may visit sights such as the Nine Arches Bridge, Little Adam’s Peak or Ravana Falls, while others may prefer to enjoy the laid-back cafés and panoramic viewpoints. Dinner at a restaurant overlooking the dramatic Ella Gap can be arranged, offering unforgettable sunset scenery.

Overnight in Ella.

DAY 10 – ELEPHANT TRANSIT HOME AND YALA NATIONAL PARK

Leaving Ella, you descend from the highlands towards the wild southern plains. Along the way, you visit the Elephant Transit Home, an inspiring conservation project where injured and orphaned elephant calves are rehabilitated before being gradually released back into protected natural habitats. It is a moving experience that highlights Sri Lanka’s commitment to wildlife protection.

From here, you continue to Yala National Park, the country’s most famous wildlife reserve and home to one of the highest densities of leopards in Asia. In the late afternoon, you embark on an exciting jeep safari, exploring scrub forest, rocky outcrops, lagoons and open grassland in search of elephants, leopards, crocodiles, deer, wild boar and an impressive variety of birdlife. Overnight in Yala.
